Janet: Hey get you ass down to the studio where Jeff, I and some guys are jamming. We are getting ready to do a show and we have to practice. Don't be late.
Lori: Janet it's a really beautiful day, so I am going to walk around the city for a while, shop or do something that keeps me outside.
Janet: Get here before 6:00 p.m. because that's when we are leaving. Got it.
I spend my daylight pre-Janet walking time traversing the streets of Chelsea, a predominantly gay community in Manhattan. Many great stores and interesting people.
I then headed over to meet the Janet and her band members. I went to 262 West 9th Street. When I arrived, there were a line of mostly Asian people waiting to enter the building. This was a club call "Rebel" the unnaturally nice bouncer told me. He put a band on my wrist saying I was over 21 and that I could drink. Once again, I explained to this very nice bouncer that I was looking for a recording studio to meet my friends.
Bouncer: This is the only place. The place next door is an apartment building.
Lori: Oh really why does everyone who comes out have a guitar, bass, cello, drums or something?
He told me to come into the club and we would together go and find my friends. I knew he was never going to find them in the club "Rebel". I went along with him anyway just for fun and to make him happy. Cool club. Not supposed to be here, but great club. Maybe another time? I sat there for a while people watching and then called Janet.
Janet: Hey I'm in the club next door.
Lori: What club?
Janet: There is a beautiful club next door with the same address. Are you crazy, just come here already. I'm on the third floor I told you already and we are waiting for you so you can play the tambourine for the band.
I thank the bouncer who is all smiles and head into the next building, then to the third floor. Now what? I walk the halls looking for Janet. At the very end of the hall I hear her.
Janet: There you are Lori. What happened to you?
Lori: I told you, I was at the club downstairs. She looks at me like she thinks I am making this up.
