I met my husband, Donovan, in college. He had a home gym in his basement and when we moved in together I got interested in lifting weights. I had always been thin, but had put on the "college fifteen" and was unhappy about it. Donovan showed me various exercises involving free weights. Over several years of tinkering with the free weights I noticed some nice changes in my physique, and liked it.
After we both finished college we moved down to Denver, North Carolina where we had time to workout together and start more intense workouts. Periodically, we would visit a friend in Florida and workout at Powerhouse Gym or the YMCA. We started to notice that I was lifting more weight than some of the men in the gym.
